According to Master Class A monologue is a long speech by a single character in a theatre production or film. Monologues can either be addressing other characters in the scene, or they can be one character talking to themselves or to the audience.
Monologues serve a specific purpose in storytelling—to give the audience more details about a character or about the plot. Used carefully, they are a great way to share the internal thoughts or backstory of a character or to give more specific details about the plot.
1. Memorization: you want your monologue to seem natural. You'll be able to focus on your characters and movements, Breaking Down the monologue helps with memorization
2. Perfect fit: Make sure the monologue is one you believe you can really deliver. Know your casting type and be realistic about it.
3. Tell us who you are: Don't forget to Slate your name, the title, and what other slate information you deem necessary.
4. Rehearse: Its always a good idea to record yourself, watch it back and edit anything you want to do different in the next take.
Modern Monologues was founded in December 2019 by Writer, Director, Producer Billi Sarafina. Constantly looking for a team to create content with on a regular basis and being unsuccessful, Billi came up with the idea of Modern Monologues. Thinking about how both writers and performers want their work to be seen and voices to be heard. Considering the high demand of online content she came up with the idea of creating short monologues and having performers who are looking for content to preform, rather it is for reels, practice, having content, or for fun. Modern Monologues #Modmonos was created to connect writers and performers to bring a wide variety of genres to life. Serving the creative community and the people who support! Thank you!
